Menus & Nutrition
Something for Everyone
UChicago Dining offers delicious selections for various diets, including:
A dedicated Kosher dining venue is available at Cathey and Bartlett Dining Commons. These venues are approved and staffed by the Chicago Rabbinical Council and are open during the academic school year, not including interim periods and during the Sabbath and holidays. UChicago Dining and College Housing work together with Hillel to provide meals for the Sabbath (Friday dinner and Saturday lunch) and holidays. Students may sign up with Hillel to eat their Sabbath meals there (students on a meal plan have their meals covered by the meal plan). When the Cathey Kosher dining venue is open, they prepare deli sandwiches that are double-wrapped and labeled for sale in the two campus markets: Maroon Market (Bartlett) and Midway Market (South Campus). Frozen Kosher entrees are always for sale in both markets.
A dedicated Zabiha Halal dining veue is available at Cathey and Bartlett Dining Commons. UChicago Dining and College Housing work together with the Muslim Student Association (MSA) to determine the menu of food items that are served at this dining venue.
Vegetarian options are available at both dining commons each day, typically served at the Harvest dining venue. Pans, serving utensils, and knives for vegetarian dishes are all color-coded with green handles.
Vegan options are available at both dining commons each day, typically served at the Harvest dining venue. Pans, serving utensils, and knives for vegan dishes are all color-coded with blue handles.
Both dining commons offer daily options for diners who need to avoid gluten, including plain grilled chicken breasts and hamburgers; steamed vegetables, gluten-free deli meats, plain rice noodles, gluten-free pizza, steamed brown rice, plain baked potatoes; gluten-free cereal and bread; and gluten-free desserts. A dedicated toaster is available to toast the gluten-free bread. Please see the UChicago Student Guide to Managing Food Allergies in the link below for additional information on how we help students with specific dietary limitations.
Ingredient books for all dishes served at our dining halls are available as PDFs on the right side of this page. Ingredient lists may be subject to change without notice. Please speak to the Registered Dietitian or manager in your dining location with any questions regarding ingredient or product information.
