Each plan provides a three‑week dining period that begins with your first meal swipe. All meal swipes must be used within that three‑week window and do not roll over. If multiple plans are purchased, they are used in order and cannot overlap. Dining Dollars do not expire and remain available beyond the plan period.

Summer Scholars FAQ
A: Yes. All Summer Scholars plans include the same number of meal swipes and Dining Dollars. The different plan options represent purchase deadlines throughout the summer, not different plan types.
Students may purchase up to three plans. Because each plan provides three weeks of dining access, students who want meal plan coverage for a larger portion of the summer may choose to purchase multiple plans. Plans are used in order and do not overlap, meaning each new plan begins only after the previous one has been fully used or expires.
A: No, Dining Dollars do not expire at the same time as meal swipes. Any remaining Dining Dollars will roll over for use during the academic year.
A: Yes, during the summer, dining does not operate continuously throughout the day. Service is available during designated meal periods: breakfast from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and dinner from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m..
A: Your 3‑week dining period begins the first time you use a meal swipe, not when you purchase the plan. From that first swipe, all remaining swipes must be used within the next three weeks and will expire at the end of that period.
Example 1:
You swipe for dinner for the first time on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, your meal plan will remain active for three weeks and will expire at the end of the day on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
Example 2:
You use your first meal swipe for breakfast on Monday, June 15, 2026, your plan will remain active for three weeks and will expire at the end of the day on Monday, July 6, 2026.
A: Yes. You may purchase meal packs at different times throughout the summer. Each meal pack is activated independently and does not begin until you use your first meal swipe.
Once you use your first swipe in a pack, you will have three weeks to use all remaining swipes in that pack. Any unused swipes will expire at the end of that three‑week period or at the end of the Summer Scholars dining program—whichever comes first.
Example 1:
A student purchases a Summer Scholars Meal Pack 1 in early June because they will be on campus from mid‑June through early July. They use their first swipe on June 12, 2026. Their 3‑week period begins on that date, and all swipes must be used by July 3, 2026.
The student then leaves campus for an extended period.
Example 2:
The same student returns to campus in late August and purchases the Summer Scholars Meal Pack 3. They initially use Dining Dollars and do not swipe into the dining hall right away.
They use their first meal swipe on September 4, 2026. Their new 3‑week period begins on that date.
Under normal circumstances, the plan would remain active for three weeks (through September 25, 2026). However, because all Summer Scholars meal plans end on September 21, 2026, any remaining swipes must be used by that date.
In this case, the meal plan will expire at the end of the day on September 21, 2026, even though it is less than a full three‑week period.
A: If you purchase multiple meal packs at the same time, they do not all start immediately. Each meal pack activates only when you use the first meal swipe from that specific pack.
Once activated, each pack runs for its own 3‑week (21‑day) period, beginning on the date of the first swipe. This means your meal packs can be used sequentially over time, rather than all at once.
Meal swipes cannot be used before the program start date, so the earliest possible activation for any pack is June 10, 2026.
Purchasing multiple packs in advance gives you flexibility—you control when each one begins based on when you start using it.
Example:
A student purchases Summer Scholars Meal Packs 1, 2, and 3 on June 8, 2026.
Even though all three packs are purchased at the same time, each pack activates only when its first meal swipe is used, and each runs on its own 3‑week period. Meal swipes cannot be used until June 10, 2026, so the first possible activation date is June 10.
The student begins using Meal Pack 1 on June 10, 2026.
This pack will expire at the end of the day on July 1, 2026.
After finishing Pack 1, the student uses their first swipe from Meal Pack 2 on July 2, 2026.
This pack will expire at the end of the day on July 23, 2026.
The student then begins Meal Pack 3 with their first swipe on July 24, 2026.
This pack will expire at the end of the day on August 14, 2026.
This example shows that purchasing multiple meal packs at once does not start the clock on all of them—each 3‑week period begins only when the first swipe for that specific pack is used, starting no earlier than June 10.
A: If you use all three Summer Scholars meal packs before the September Term dining plans begin, you will need to plan for meals during the gap period.
Meal packs are designed to cover a limited timeframe and may not extend to the start of the fall plan on August 23, 2026. For example, if your meal packs are used by August 14, 2026, you will have several days without an active meal plan.
During this time, you may:
Use remaining Dining Dollars (if available) at campus dining locations.
Pay out-of-pocket (credit or debit) at campus dining locations.
Make off-campus dining arrangements, depending on your situation.
Students who plan to rely primarily on campus dining are encouraged to pace their meal usage or plan ahead for this short transition period.
Dining offers group meal plan options for internal programs that are not contracted through Summer Conferences. These plans provide flexible breakfast and/or lunch coverage for program participants and are coordinated directly with Dining to align with program schedules and attendance.
