At UChicago Dining, our Teaching Kitchens offer hands-on, interactive experiences designed to help students build confidence in the kitchen while exploring the connection between food, nutrition, and everyday life. Led by Chartwells culinary and wellness teams, these sessions provide practical skills that students can carry with them long after they leave campus.
Through guided instruction and experiential learning, participants learn foundational cooking techniques, explore balanced meal preparation, and gain a deeper understanding of ingredients, flavor, and nutrition. Whether students are new to cooking or looking to expand their skills, Teaching Kitchens provide an approachable and supportive environment for learning.
Beyond the kitchen, these sessions foster connection and community. Teaching Kitchens create shared experiences where students can learn collaboratively, try new foods, and build confidence in a relaxed and welcoming space.
By combining culinary education with wellness and engagement, the Teaching Kitchens program supports student success both on campus and beyond, helping students develop lifelong skills that promote healthier, more independent living.
